The vast majority of my patients notice more restful sound sleep after their adjustments. Once nerve interference is cleared, the muscles relax and the body is nimbler and can move easier allowing a more comfortable sleep.
One patient relayed that when he received regular chiropractic adjustments to his neck and upper back his snoring was relived. Both he and his wife slept better after that!
Sleep positions are also important while sleeping. As a chiropractor I discourage sleeping on your stomach. If you are a stomach sleeper, then I suggest a body pillow which you can place beside you and discourage your body from lying completely on your stomach. In the stomach lying position, your head has to be completely turned to the side to breathe. This position may be held for hours, causing strain to the neck muscles. The lumbar (low back) curve becomes more acute when lying on your stomach which jams the back joints together causing pain and inflammation. The body pillow will help this too. A supportive pillow or a more supportive mattress might be the key to ending your restless nights. I do not recommend any specific mattresses or pillows because every person’s body is different and one size does not fit all. I suggest trying a mattress out at a sleep store or some of the mattresses online have a generous return policy. Some bath and bedroom stores will allow you to exchange pillows if you do not like them. This is a very good thing as pillows can be very expensive.
