Saccharine: The FDA is not consistent with their recommendations. The decision is yours
1878- A chemist working on coal tar derivatives at Johns Hopkins University. After working with his compounds all day, he discovered that his hand tasted “sweet”. This is how they discovered “Saccharine”. Coal and Tar are not food.
1907- The USDA and FDA recommended “DO NOT USE THIS COMPOUND IN FOODS”
1912- The FDA says “Saccharine is NOT harmful”
1948- The FDA says “Saccharine is DANGEROUS”
1958- The FDA says “Warning labels should be placed on all foods containing Saccharine”
1969- The FDA says “There is little scientific proof to prove the dangers of Saccharine”
1972- The FDA tries to ban Saccharine because in scientific studies it causes bladder and lung cancer in rats.
1978-The science states that Saccharine most likely causes bladder and lung cancer in humans.
1973-1994 There is a 10% increase in the incidence of human bladder cancer in the United States.
2000 The FDA Removes the warning label from foods that contain Saccharine
2008-Scientific studies show that Saccharine raises the plasma Insulin level, negatively affect diabetic patients.
2010- The FDA Takes Saccharine off the list of Cancer causing chemicals.
